CARIBBEAN COUNTRIES
Most of the Caribbean island countries consist of many smaller islands, which make this a wonderful sailing area. The most numerous group are Virgin Islands, divided between the United States and United Kingdom.
Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands are located in the Atlantic Ocean and not in the waters of the Caribbean Sea. Technically they are not a part of Caribbean, but are sometimes included in this territory.
The Bahamas lay some 100 miles (160 km) east of the coast of Florida, and are more often excluded than included in the Caribbean. 700 small coral-based islands and 2,000 cays astonish visitors with their exceptional beauty, rich history and romantic streak.
The Turks and Caicos Islands are, compared to the Bahamas, more often considered to be the part of the Caribbean. They border the Caribbean Sea but are in the Atlantic Ocean, just north of Haiti, at the tail end of the Bahamian archipelago. Out of numerous islands in the group only 8 are inhabited. These islands’ exceptionally well preserved and unspoiled nature is the main asset; over 360 km of white sand beaches and hundreds of kilometers of coral reefs are a view of the perfect getaway.
