The climate
Most of the Caribbean islands are located in the tropical zone, which means the weather here is warm and humid. The average temperatures range from 24°C (75,2 °F) in cooler months to 28°C (82,4 °F) in July. The NE trade winds bring moisture from the Atlantic Ocean and ease the strong heat.
The weather here is pleasant and warm all year round – the perpetual spring. There are no significant oscillations in temperatures and winds, and the tourist season lasts all year round (the high season is considered to be December - June).
Most people instantly associate the Caribbean weather with strong devastating hurricanes. But the real situation is not as dangerous as some may think. The hurricane season lasts from June to November, but it reaches its peak in September and October.
In most cases hurricanes strike northward of Grenada and west of Barbados. A "hurricane zone" arches to NW of Barbados and the strong winds accompanied by the heavy rainfall usually go through the Caribbean and move up to Mexico and southern US.
Some islands (such as Aruba, Curacao, Bonaire and others in this area) are completely out of the hurricane zone and are almost never affected by this disaster.
If you are sailing Caribbean in the hurricane season, and in the hurricane zone, you should always pay good attention to weather forecasts. If you are well prepared, there is little chance of a hurricane catching you off guard.
