RULES AND REGULATIONS

Entry documentation

Required entry documentationWhen travelling to Caribbean, foreign citizens are required to have valid passports and areturn or onward ticket.

Required entry documentation is not the same for all the visitors and to all Caribbean countries, so check out with your ministries and governments what identification documents you need. But, the safest and easiest thing is having a valid passport. It will get you easily in and out of the country, and you can use it as a proof of identification.

Visas, in general, are not mandatory for the citizens of U.S., Canada, Australia, Japan or EU countries, unless you are travelling to Caribbean on business. Some countries require visas, so it is recommended to check out the detailed regulations concerning required entry documentation.

Some islands may also require proof of funds adequate to cover the duration of your stay.

*NOTE: carefully investigate in your country of origin, which travel documentation you need to enter the Caribbean.

Customs

The customs regulations are not the same for all countries and on all islands. If you are planning a shopping spree, get yourself acquainted with the rules concerning the island you are visiting and your home country to avoid unnecessary problems and inconveniences.

In general, it is allowed to bring up to two litres of alcohol and two cartons of cigarettes to the islands. It is also allowed to bring a “reasonable” amount of duty-free goods for personal use (more may incur an import tax). However, not all islands have the same regulations, so familiarize yourself with those regarding your home country.

All prescription drugs must have an official prescription, and recreational drugs and firearms are not allowed.

You should keep receipts for all the items you purchase in the Caribbean.

All islands charge a departure tax, which varies from one island to another, but customs and immigration usually accepts cash payments only. Some travel companies include this tax into the price of the fare, but not all of them, so check out this matter with your travel agent to avoid any misunderstandings.
