Protected NATURE AREAS
Half of the Caribbean land mass is hilly and mountainous and the other half is flat land. Most of the islands are a combination of the two landscapes, circled with sand beaches and crystal waters; with vibrant colours, diverse rock formations, rivers, rapids, rainforest, deserts, swamps, coral reefs and many other elements, it makes a splendour that defies description. Bird and wildlife reserves, caves, botanical gardens… The Caribbean nature is particularly rich and diverse.
The island of St. John in the US Virgin Islands is one of the islands with most attractive nature world. Fully 2/3 of the island are Virgin Islands National Park; many agree this is the place of unspoiled beauty, abundant with flowers, trees, plants and wildlife.
The El Yunque National Park rainforest covers the eastern part of the Puerto Rico; it is a home to some 240 species of trees, millions of tiny tree frogs (coquis) and to the endangered green parrot cotorra.
The National Park at Guadeloupe includes an active La Soufriere Volcano, and the Arikok National Wildlife Park in Aruba covers some 20% of the island.
