Things to do in Caribbean

Sport activities

popular activities in the CaribbeanThe beaches and sea here are not only beautiful, but also rich with plant and animal life. Diving and snorkelling are among the most attractive activities. Endless coral reefs, exotic plants and fish, lush maritime vegetation in the crystal clear and warm waters are a diving paradise. The most popular diving areas are the Cayman and the Virgin Islands, and Isla de la Juventud; other significant locations are Dominica, Bonaire, Curacao and, famous for shipwreck diving, Martinique, St. Eustatius and Tortola. But don’t forget that in the Caribbean you can have a great underwater time just about anywhere; and remember to acquaint yourself with local diving rules and regulations.

Another popular activity is fishing. Due to great differences in underwater landscapes, there are several types of fishing. From shallow shores to deep waters, there are large schools of various fish in all parts of the Caribbean – bonefish (tarpon, permit, pompano, wahoo and the famous barracuda), grouper, mutton snapper, yellowtail snapper, jack crevalle… Both recreational and sports fishing are popular activities among local population, as well as foreigners. Large fish populations can be found throughout the region; the entire Caribbean is a good fishing location, but some parts are more renowned – Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Barbados…

If you are willing to anchor and explore some places on the island, there is plenty you can do. Beside hiking and biking, you can visit some of the very popular sports tournaments - football (soccer), rugby, golf, baseball, horse racing, tennis or, naturally, sailing regattas and especially popular cricket (on grass and on a beach).
